Dr Kristjan Leosson presented details of DTE’s advances in the use of ultra-precise LIBS for the continuous, real-time measurement of molten aluminium in an industrial environment at the 10th EMSLIBS 2019 (https://emslibs.com/) symposium and exhibition in Brno, Czech Republic, September 8-13.

The symposium convenes researchers from all over the world to share ideas and knowledge not only concerning laser ablation itself but also its interdisciplinary applications.

Highlights of the talk included:

  • LIBS enables precise, repeatable real-time analysis of trace elements molten aluminum during processing
  • For many elements, LIBS precision is comparable to laboratory OES analysis.
  • LOQ of 10 ppm or below has been realized in an industrial setting.
