DTE is featured in International ALUMINIUM Journal

DTE is featured in the December 2018 edition of International ALUMINIUM Journal, the longest established professional journal for the aluminum industry and distributed worldwide, covering all facets of the aluminum value chain.

Aluminium production is a complex process in which aluminium is obtained by fused-salt electrolysis and processed in subsequent process steps. Throughout this process the aluminium is sampled for elemental analysis to determine further processing requirements to produce metal of appropriate purity and composition. At present, sampling is performed manually by withdrawing a ladle of molten metal, allowing it to cool and then transferring the cast sample to an on-site laboratory. This is repeated many times per day – a laborious and expensive process that delays the feed-back loop of production control information, leading to inaccuracy and inefficiency.

DTE’s element analyzer uses laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) to provide an accurate real-time chemical analysis of the main elemental contaminants present in the molten aluminium, without contacting the surface of the metal. No manual handling or laboratory measurements are required. Limit of detection is well within working range for elemental analysis in the aluminium industry and error with respect to reference is unprecedented for in situ analysis.

DTE Launches the EA-2000 Real-Time Elemental Analyser at Aluminium 2018

DT Equipment (DTE) will exhibit its first-in-industry liquid metal elemental analysis equipment for real-time control of the aluminum production process at the Aluminium 2018 trade fair, 9-11 October in Düsseldorf.

DTE at ALUMINIUM 2018

REYKJAVIK, Iceland–(BUSINESS WIRE)–DT Equipment ehf. (DTE) (www.dte.ai), a leader in the field of in-line compositional analysis for the metal industry, will be presenting the EA-2000, its first-in-industry technology for real-time control of aluminum processing, at the Aluminium 2018 World Trade fair at Messe Düsseldorf, from 9-11 October, 2018.

“We are excited to be exhibiting our ground-breaking industry solution at Aluminum 2018”, commented Sveinn Gudmundsson, CEO of DTE, “We welcome aluminum producers and downstream processors to our stand 11G20 at the Norwegian and Icelandic Pavilion. We will be showcasing the potential of our solution to meet the challenges of the aluminum smelting industry, with respect to optimizing metallurgical performance, cost-efficiency, productivity and quality.”

Operating at a vast scale, aluminum production is a complex, high-tech and hazardous process that involves processing high-temperature liquid metal. Throughout this process the aluminum is sampled for elemental analysis to determine further processing requirements, to produce metal of appropriate purity and composition. At present, sampling is performed manually, by withdrawing a ladle of molten metal, allowing it to cool and then transferring the cast sample to an on-site laboratory. This is repeated many hundreds of times per day – a laborious, expensive process that delays the feedback loop of production control information, leading to inaccuracy and inefficiency.

DTE’s EA-2000 element analyser uses laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) to provide an accurate real-time chemical analysis of the main elemental contaminants present in the molten aluminum, without contacting the surface of the metal. No manual handling or laboratory measurements are required. Limit of detection (LOD) is well within working range for elemental analysis in the aluminum industry and error with respect to reference is unprecedented for in situ analysis. While LIBS is used in a wide range of applications, the EA-2000 has been designed and produced by DTE’s industry expert team specifically for continuous operation in the harsh conditions of an aluminum smelter and to take readings directly from the surface of the molten aluminum – a significant challenge, around which the Company has patents pending.

“The EA-2000 compares very favourably to standard laboratory OES analysis and the manual sampling process it requires,” said Kristjan Leosson, Ph.D., DTE’s Technical Director, who will be presenting a talk entitled Automated real-time composition analysis of liquid aluminum and aluminum alloys at the Aluminium Forum at Messe Düsseldorf, at 16:30 on Wednesday, 10 October, 2018.

The DTE EA-2000 complements and aims to replace current sampling methods for process and quality control, offering real-time process feedback, substantial process cost savings from faster, more frequent measurements and improved operator safety by eliminating the need for human intervention.
